RHET 5347 Topics in Nonfiction Writing gives students the opportunity to gain editing experience working on the Rhetoric and Writing Department’s annual publication, Quills & Pixels. The publication is student edited and managed under the supervision of Dr. Charles Anderson, featuring non-fiction pieces from students, faculty, or previous alumni of UALR. The course allows students to learn about editing for publication from acquisition to final production, which includes print and layout design.

My main goal when working on this project was to create a cover design that was boldly different from previous published versions of Quills & Pixels and to attract a larger audience base. I wanted the cover design to be an invitation towards reading the pieces within. The layout and introduction designs mimicked the use of contrast and font choices from the cover.
